Changes at the Practice Infographic »

We hope you and your family are in good health. Following recent governmental announcements regarding the new National lockdown, we can confirm that Specialist Dental Care will remain open. Governmental guidance and the Chief Dental Officer have confirmed that patients can travel to attend dental practices. We are able to offer the full range of routine and specialist dental treatments and hygienist care in a safe and secure environment for our patients and staff.

Infection prevention and control have always been a top priority at Specialist Dental Care and we hope you have noticed this during your previous visits to our practice. Our infection control processes were developed so that when you receive care, it is both safe and comfortable for you and our staff are protected.

Our practice follows infection control guidelines made by the governing bodies. We are up-to-date on the latest guidance that has been issued and have modified our protocols to take these into account. As a result, you may notice some changes when you next visit the practice. For example:

  • We will communicate with you beforehand to ask some questions and update your medical history.
  • When you arrive in the area, please let us know by telephone and wait outside or in your car (rather than coming straight to the door). When the team is ready, one of our nurses will phone you back to let you know.
  • You will be greeted at the door, where your temperature will be taken and medical history confirmed.
  • We have hand sanitiser that we will ask you to use when you enter the practice and before you leave and at other times as appropriate.
  • You will then be escorted directly to the surgery.
  • Our staff will be wearing enhanced PPE to protect you and our team where social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • We no longer offer magazines and you will notice that other difficult to clean items have been removed.
  • Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you are offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
  • Before treatment you will be asked to use an antiseptic mouthwash.
  • We have installed air filtration units with anti-viral activity in the treatment rooms to supplement our existing efficient mechanical ventilation systems.

How you can help:

  • If you develop symptoms before your appointment, please contact us and do not attend the practice.
  • With the exception of patients with carers, please attend your appointment alone.
  • Please try to avoid bringing unnecessary items into the building e.g. bags, shopping etc.
  • Please do use the hand sanitiser supplied upon entering and before leaving the premises and you must wear a face covering, which we can supply if you haven’t got one with you.
  • Please maintain social distancing of at least 2 metres from other patients and staff where possible, although we will change the way we schedule patients in order to minimise the number of people in the building at one time.
  • Try to minimise the use of toilet facilities and please don’t clean your teeth in the practice, but do this at home.
  • Payment should be made by card or bank transfer where possible.
  • Confirm your email address and other contact details so that we can reduce the use of paper invoices and receipts.

We are confident that our team can offer you a safe and effective service in these unprecedented times. We hope the global and national situation with Covid-19 will improve in the not too distant future, so that we can ease some of the stringent measures that we have had to introduce.
